In reaction to the State of the Union, the Science and Technology Action Committee (STAC), a non-partisan coalition of non-profit, academic, foundation and business leaders advocating for greater focus and funding of science and technology, issued this statement.
### STAC STATEMENT ON THE STATE OF THE UNION ###
President Biden’s focus was spot on. More investment in priorities like the Cancer Moonshot and mental health will save thousands of lives, and it doubles down on a commitment to use scientific research to solve our biggest challenges.
In his speech, President Biden also highlighted the progress made in generating a clean energy boom, building semiconductors here at home and creating more jobs for all Americans. He also pushed for additional government investment in scientific research.
But now, even more hard work is needed. The White House and Congress must work together in the coming year to further advance science and technology in clean energy, semiconductors, health care and many other areas critical to the competitiveness of the United States. By focusing efforts across all sectors of the government, we can meet the challenges of today and tomorrow and lead the globe in innovation.
The members of the Science and Technology Action Committee commend the President and members of Congress on Capitol Hill for the remarkable progress over the past year. And we’re excited to continue to support them as they work on securing the investments needed to improve the lives of every American and expand our economy through science.
