June 2, 2023

The Science and Technology Action Committee (STAC), a non-partisan coalition of non-profit, academic, foundation and business leaders advocating for increased federal focus on, and funding for science and technology, issued the following statement supporting the nominee for NIH director:

STAC applauds President Biden’s nomination of Monica Bertagnolli, MD, to lead the National Institutes of Health and urges rapid Senate confirmation.

Dr. Bertagnolli’s experience as director of the National Cancer Institute and as a renowned surgeon, researcher and patient will promote mission-critical advances in research, development and innovation, independently and in partnership with other federal agencies and with the private sector to advance programs and policies critical to the health and scientific development of our nation.

Dr. Bertagnolli has the vision and leadership that NIH needs at this critical time. We urge Congress to act quickly to confirm her nomination.

The Science & Technology Action Committee (STAC) is a group of 25 non-profit, academic, foundation, and corporate leaders working to dramatically strengthen U.S. science and technology.
