The Science and Technology Action Committee (STAC), a non-partisan alliance of non-profit, academic, foundation and business leaders advocating for greater focus and funding of science and technology, issued the following statement following the passing of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.
The Science & Technology Action Committee is deeply saddened by Congresswoman Johnson’s passing and grateful for all her contributions to science and technology — many of which will reverberate for decades to come.
Throughout her five decades of public service, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson remained a constant champion for science and technology, advocating for opportunities in science for all Americans.
As the first person of color and woman to chair the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, she played an instrumental role in the passage of the historic CHIPS and Science Act. And as a long-time member of the committee, she contributed to dozens of other pieces of science legislation — both big and small — throughout her time on Capitol Hill.
